Remote Access Party
Virtual nightlife party celebrating the magic and wisdom of disability communities.
Since lockdown in March 2020, Remote Access Parties have brought together hundreds of disability organisers, artists, and party babes to celebrate the magic of crip wisdom.
About:
For the Come Together Weekender, members of the Remote Access organising collective (including ‘queer-crip organiser’ Kevin Gotkin) held space for us to dance, enjoy performances, and connect with other attendees.
The event featured a special playlist created by Kevin Gotkin / Who Girl, starting with Come Together by the Beatles and including club hits like “Love Someone” by Prospa and “That’s what I want” by Lil Nas. The music was song-signed in BSL and described by Kevin Gotkin – for example, during ‘Break the Ice’ by Britney Spears, they described it as sounding “smooth, kinda soft acid elements, lasery”.

The event included an Opening Incantation by Aimi Hamraie, a ‘How We Feel’ multi-sensory grounding exercise by Moira Williams & Teresa Suh, Magic Show film by Kevin Gotkin exploring access as magic, plus a filmed audio-description performance by Ebony Rose Dark who is a visually impaired performance artist.
Access features included BSL, captions, visual description, sound description, and access doulas. See the party participation guide for more information.
“We welcome you to the crip ritual of remote access. A way to celebrate and be together that emerges from crip culture. Within that shimmering we charge up our circles with elements of crip magic.”
