No Such Thing: Bristol Edition
An online conversation between two strangers who might not otherwise meet.
About:
No Such Thing is hosted by Quarantine, a Manchester-based ensemble of artists and producers who have been running the event monthly since 2012. The project explores how we negotiate difference and find points of connection.
The Bristol Edition took place over video call, between a person in Bristol and a member of Quarantine in Manchester. Each conversation lasted half an hour. To keep the conversation flowing, Quarantine created a menu of questions and prompts. This included ‘Today’s Special’ from that day’s news. Prompts included abstract sensory provocations like “something about the smell of lockdown?” and prompts about coming together, like, “was there a time when you were stronger together?”.
Both strangers were sent a blend of Knowle West tea to drink together while they talked. This created a hybrid experience where they connected over something physical while inside the virtual space of Zoom. Read more about our Knowle West tea here.
How will you go back into the world?

Quarantine was established in 1998 by directors Richard Gregory and Renny O’Shea with designer Simon Banham.
They make original theatre, performance and public events with and about the people who are in it.
Whatever form it takes, their work begins and ends with the people in the room. Over the last 20 years, they have collaborated with a shifting constellation of artists, performers and people who had never done anything like this before.
